Scalini's Eggplant Induces Labor

The Eggplant Didn't Work

| | Comments (0)

After checking all of Alecia's vitals during our appointment on Thursday, our doctor randomly interjected, "We'll only wait a maximum of two weeks after your delivery date before we induce." What is that supposed to mean? Was she implying that we'd be late? Maybe it was just information we needed to know, but it had the ring of bad news.

Anyway, this weekend, Alecia and I went to Scalini's for dinner. Supposedly, their eggplant parmesan is a labor accellerant. They have pictures on their walls of all of the babies that have been born after their mommies ate eggplant parmesan at Scalini's. Needless to say, it's now two days later, and we still don't have a baby in our arms. Can we sue?

Well, we'll let you know when/if something happens. In the meantime, if you're bored...like we are...why not find out what your soul is worth at WeWantYourSoul.com?

Some updates, while we're waiting.

I finally got around to posting some of the more recent pics we've taken. It's not much, but trust me when I say you'll soon be sick of all the pics we'll send.

Anyway, check out the new belly pics. These were taken about a week and a half ago. The one in the car was after getting ice cream, so if Alecia looks especially happy, that's why. I think if you did an x-ray on her at this point, you would clearly see that she's swallowed a watermelon. And that baby's coming out of where? Ouch. How many dads faint in the delivery room, I wonder?

Also, I posted a few new pics of the nursery. We added a few finishing touches to the room (thanks to some new gifts and Alecia's obsessive-compulsive nesting instinct).

Speaking of Alecia, could someone please tell her to stop doing...anything? In the past week, she has dropped a vaccum cleaner on her toe (busting it open), fell off of our porch (don't worry, she fell backwards), and has overheated from an ill-advised late afternoon walk with the dogs. The girl is a danger to herself. Someone talk to her!

Still...no...baby.

Another Doctor's appointment is in the books, and there's still nothing exciting to report. We're to the point where the doc is checking Alecia's cervix at each visit (too much information?), and there is no sign of dilation. Poor Alecia. She's not just in constant discomfort at this point, but she's also unbelievably excited to meet the little person who's been poking her from the inside for nine months. She just can't wait for the baby to be born.

Today was a busy day for baby-related tasks. This morning, I met the person who will be our pediatrician when the baby comes. She came referred by my boss, but I had to meet her at least once before signing on. Then, this afternoon, my group threw me a baby shower. Don't worry, guys, it was a very masculine affair. No balloons or party games. In fact, only one woman was in attendance (my group is 90% male), and the gift they gave us was a large chunk of cash, not just cutesy baby clothes and stuff. :) The funniest part of it was what was printed on the cake. Susan (the lone girl in our group) had told the cake people to write "It's a Boy! (Or Girl!)" on the cake, since we don't know the sex, yet. Instead, they wrote "It's a Boy Are Girl!" I have no clue what that means.

By the way...

By the way, if you check out the delivery date predictions (in the "comments" section of the Thursday, August 28 post), almost half of you have been proven wrong already. Most of the Alabama group guessed that the baby would come before Sept. 12th! I think their excitement went to their heads. And Kami, you have about four more hours for your guess!

Feel free to change your guesses in the comments to this post. :)

Not much to report. As usual.

We had another Dr.'s appointment on Thursday (they're weekly now), and there's not much to report. Alecia's still having the normal contractions and the occasional aches and pains. But the baby isn't here yet. I've been telling people all along that we'll make it to our due date, but nobody seems to believe me. Only time will tell, I guess.

Thursday night, we went to a dinner for an Australian friend of ours (Jason, who is working for ESPN in Singapore now) with a bunch of my various international soccer buddies. The Malaysian food was spicy, but did not push Alecia into labor as she hoped. (Although it could have contributed to the extra aches she had on Friday.) As a side note, never let a pregnant American talk to anyone from Europe about other countries' practices. Alecia may be moving us to Finland soon, after hearing our friend Outi talk about how much time Finnish women get off when they're pregnant, and how well they're treated.

We spent the rest of the weekend doing "baby things." We had dinner with Seth (a new co-worker of mine) and his lovely wife Jennifer and beautiful baby Raelyn on Saturday night, and went to Jeroen and Jane's daughter Lillian's first birthday party on Sunday. On the way back from the party, we stopped and bought a Snugli. If you don't know what that is, it's a pack that you carry the baby in (it can be worn on front or back). It was fun trying them on at Babies R Us. I could just picture a baby riding on my chest like some kind of bald baby chimpanzee. After all the baby contact this weekend, the fact that ours will soon be in our hands is really hitting home. And scaring the heck out of me. :)

Anyway, I have some pics of changes to the baby's room (and changes to Alecia's now watermelon-sized tummy) that I will put up soon. Sorry for the lack of posts, but we're in the waiting period now, and it's making us restless as hell. Sitting in front of a computer and digitizing pics just doesn't sound like much fun at the moment. :)

Latest news...

Well, we had our doctor's appointment. Not much to report, except that there's not much to report. Despite all the Braxton Hicks, I'm not dilated at all. Munchkin is in the head down position, though, which is good news. He/She is also quite big. In the doctor's words, we have a "pretty good 6 pounder already, with about 4 more weeks to go." Considering that I was a nearly 10 lb. baby, and Bill was almost 9 lbs, I think it's a pretty good guess that this little one will be big too. We got to hear the heartbeat again (I just love that) and it was strong and steady at 155-160 bmp. (Fast heartbeat. Maybe it's a girl afterall?...)

One funny note: We asked the doctor if he thought I would go into labor anytime soon. He took one look at me and said, "You're way too cheerful to be close to labor. Once you're yelling at him [points to Bill] then you'll know you're close." The nurse nodded in agreement. I thought that was hilarious.
