And they called it puppy love.

Cheesy grin

Maddie ran up to me the other day while we sitting outside Josie's ballet class. She was very excited and said she wanted to tell me something.

Mommy, I have something to tell you but you can't tell ANYONE! Okay? Not anyone. Pinky promise?

I pinky promise.

{whispering} I'm in love! I'm in love with Matthew in my class.

Oh wow. You love Matthew?

No, Mommy, I don't LOVE Matthew. I'm IN LOVE with Matthew.

Oh, sorry. What is it about him that you like?

He always gets his work done at school and he never gets on yellow and he's really nice to everybody.

He does sound very nice. Does he know you like him?

NOOOOOO! Nobody does. Only you. But don't tell anyone, okay?

Okay, so I'm a terrible mommy and I'm telling everyone here in cyberspace, but for now I know she's not reading blogs yet, and neither is Matthew. I just found it cute that she's experiencing such puppy love already.

I was going through shock thinking about all of this happening already when I remembered my own experiences in kindergarten. I was in love with a boy named Nicky and he and I held hands in class and told our teacher, Mrs. Message, that we were going to get married. Mrs. Message must have been a little concerned because she called my parents to tell them the news. They both sat down with me that evening and informed me that I wasn't allowed to get married until I graduated college. I sadly went to school the next day and told Nicky that we couldn't get married until I graduated college, so he'd have to wait. Fortunately, for Nicky, he wouldn't have to wait long because I lost interest and Anthony became my new boyfriend a few weeks later.

Bill and I had a similar conversation with Maddie, but jokingly informed her that she wasn't allowed to get married until she was 30. Her only response was, That's a long time! Will I be able to drive by then?
